Product Introduction

 

The TESTECH flame spread tester is developed according to the BS 476 Part 7 test method. Many building materials and building products used in the United Kingdom and Hong Kong are required to pass the BS 476 Part 7 surface spread of flame test.

 

In the BS 476 Part 7 method, the specimen is ignited inside the combustion chamber by a gas radiant panel and a medium gas pilot burner. The radiant intensity at a distance of 75 mm is 32.5 kW/m2 at the panel surface, and the burner flame height is 75 mm to 100 mm, applied to the specimen in the same direction as the radiant panel.

 

The specimen is exposed below the radiant heat source panel for 10 minutes. The flame spread is recorded at 1.5 minutes and 10 minutes. Test results are divided into four classes, and Class 4 materials are considered to present very high fire risk and are not permitted for use as building materials.

  • Flame contact height with the specimen is 75 mm to 100 mm.
  • Specimen size: 885 mm x 270 mm.
  • Radiant panel installed on the frame at 1250 mm above the floor.
  • Standard specimen apparatus arranged at 90 degrees to the radiant panel.
  • Radiant panel size 850 mm x 850 mm, constructed from porous refractory blocks that allow full combustion of the gas mixture without surface burning of the panel itself.
  • Specimen holding device composed of water-cooled steel frame and water-cooled panel chuck.
  • Water temperature at the outlet of the specimen holding device does not exceed 35 C.
  • Cooling water flow rate: 12 L/min.
  • Gas flow rate: 1500 ±200 ml/min.
  • Specimen fixture can rotate around the central axis to place the test surface at different angles relative to the radiant panel.
  • Power output is automatically controlled and adjusted according to test time.
  • Computer automatically processes data and can print test reports.
