The radiant panel flame spread tester uses a gas-heated radiant panel to test the flammability of building surface materials in accordance with ASTM E 162 and foam plastics in accordance with ASTM D 3675.

The flame spread index (Is) is determined by factors including flame spread and heat release, and is a required parameter in many industry codes, especially for public transportation such as trains and buses.

Data acquisition and analysis are completed automatically by software.

• All frame structures are made of stainless steel for attractive appearance and corrosion resistance.
• The radiant panel is made of a cast-iron frame. The radiant panel surface size is 305 x 457 mm, made of porous fireproof material, with working temperature of 815 degrees C.
• The blower-equipped air filter supplies air to the radiant panel.
• The device includes an igniter, electronic ignition, and automatic flameout safety monitoring device.
• Stainless steel specimen fixing frame with observation points every 3 inches for observing flame front progression.
• Pyrometer for measuring the radiant panel surface temperature, including bracket; temperature up to 815 degrees C.
• Stainless steel specimen support and ignition burner device.
• Flow meter and gas control valve for controlling the gas mixture fed into the radiant panel.
• Stainless steel exhaust pipe with removable section for convenient cleaning of thermocouples, equipped with eight thermocouples according to the standard.
• Calibration burner has 1.8 mm holes at 16 different angles along the centreline.
• To control the surface temperature of the radiant panel, a blackbody temperature of 180 to 230 degrees C must be set with accuracy of +/- 5 degrees C, suitable for observing the surface temperature of a 250 mm radius radiant panel from more than 2 m away.
• Insulated thermocouple for measuring stack temperature.
• Imported circular foil heat flux meter for testing the heat radiation condition of the radiant panel, range 0 to 100 kW/m2.
• DAQ system enables automatic control and measurement.
• Gas safety control and electrical circuit cut-off device.
