Product Overview
The TESTech roof combustion test system is designed and developed according to UL 1703 and IEC 61730-2:2016 Annex B requirements.
It is used to assess the fire resistance of roofs and module assemblies under simulated real-world conditions and to rate specimens from Class A to Class C under A 1.82 m, B 2.4 m, and C 3.9 m conditions.
It can also be applied to flame-retardant testing of photovoltaic cell modules.

Design Features
- Plywood roof covering test deck, size 1,300(W) x 1,000(D) x 120(H) mm, for installation of test specimens.
- Non-combustible test board installed at the end of the test deck to block backfire from below the deck.
- Stainless steel fan-shaped adjustment plate with adjustable test angle, size 1,440(L) x 940(H) mm.
- Main frame supports the test stand, made of corrosion-resistant steel structure, size 1,020(L) x 1,000(D) x 1,473(H) mm.
- Non-combustible board assembly at the front end of the frame simulates eaves and fascia and extends the burner flame to the specimen, size 330(W) x 2,130(D) x 584(H) mm.
- Airflow rate above the test deck is 19 +/- 8 km/h (5.5 m/s), with an anemometer for monitoring.
- Independent air duct draws air from outside the laboratory.
- Honeycomb filter is installed in the air duct, with guide vanes at the gas inlet.
- Slope adjustment panel on the air duct adjusts airflow direction.
- Guide plates on the duct enhance airflow speed and ensure stable airflow supply to the test deck without outside interference.
- Air duct is made of stainless steel, corrosion-resistant and heat-resistant, size 2,130(W) x 762(H) x 3,000(L) mm.
- Fan is 220 V, 50 Hz, three-phase, with reversing system and automatic airflow adjustment; minimum flow rate 300 m3/min.
- Stepless inverter adjustable from 0 to 100%.
- Gas burner for intermittent flame application, flame spread, and burning brand tests; 1.12 m long, 60.3 mm diameter, with a slit 12.7 mm wide by 0.91 m long on the side facing the test deck.
- Gas burner output 22,000 Btu/min (387 kWh), with high-precision gas control valve for Class A, B, and C combustion levels.
- Thermocouple installed 58.7 mm above the burner top, test temperature 888 +/- 28 C.
- Automatic ignition system with minimum ignition electrode voltage of 1.8 kVp.
- Mass flow controller controls gas flow according to standards: Class A & B 21,000 to 22,000 Btu/min for 10 minutes; Class C 18,000 to 19,000 Btu/min for 4 minutes.
- Automatic temperature control system.
- Class A & B: 760 +/- 28 C (1400 +/- 50 F), 21,000 to 22,000 Btu/min.
- Class C: 704 +/- 28 C (1300 +/- 50 F), 18,000 to 19,000 Btu/min.
- High-precision pressure gauge and regulating valve control gas pressure.
- Different gases delivered to the burner follow different testing and control methods.
- LNG uses MFM for precise gas flow measurement and automatic control valve regulation.
- LPG uses inverter system to regulate airflow speed, with test deck speed 19 +/- 8 km/h (5.5 m/s).
- Metal mesh grid supports the material, and the tray can rotate for adequate burning.
Testing System Features
- Computer control system with 19-inch LCD screen and dedicated Labview software.
- Modular data acquisition and control design including wind speed acquisition module, temperature acquisition module, wind speed control system, and exhaust control system.
- Data acquisition system includes 16-bit thermocouple input module, 16-bit analog-to-digital input module, data input/output module, and 12-bit analog-to-digital output module.
- Brand test system includes gas burner whose flame can engulf the burning brand material, with burner temperature adjustable to 880 +/- 10 C.
Result Evaluation Criteria
- Any part of the roof covering material, component, or panel is blown off the test deck in the form of flame or glowing particles.
- Exposure of the roof deck can occur by sliding, cracking, or bending of the roof covering material.
- Class A fire safety rating: flame spread range 1.82 m measured from the specimen edge.
- Class B fire safety rating: flame spread range 2.4 m measured from the specimen edge.
- Class C fire safety rating: flame spread range 3.9 m measured from the specimen edge.
- Any part of the panel or module falls or is blown off the test deck in the form of flame.
- Any part of the roof deck or any part of the roof structure panel or module disappears in the form of glowing particles.
- The component or panel continues to burn.
