Product Overview
The TESTech cable horizontal and vertical flame tester is a large combustion cabinet produced strictly in accordance with UL 1581 Sect. 1080.1 to 1080.14 and meets the requirements of the VW-1 vertical-specimen flame test.
It is used for 1060 finished wire and cable FT1 and vertical flame tests, 1061 cable flame tests, 1080 VW-1 vertical-specimen flame tests, 1090 horizontal wire flame tests, and 1100 horizontal specimen or FT2 flame tests, in order to assess the ability of wires, cables, or flexible cords to propagate flame to nearby combustible materials when ignited.
The instrument is economical, widely used in the wire and cable industry, and suitable for evaluating the flame-retardant performance of cable insulation under abnormal conditions such as overheating or overcurrent. The complete test is conducted in a sealed chamber with a volume of 4.54 m3.
Test method: adjust the flame height, place the specimen at the top of the flame, burn for 15 seconds, extinguish for 15 seconds, repeat 5 times, and then inspect the burned condition of the specimen. Burning time, extinguishing time, and repetition count can be set and controlled automatically.

Main Features
- Powder-coated enclosure with electrostatic sprayed steel plate, elegant appearance, anti-rust and anti-corrosion finish, and black baked coating inside.
- Powerful exhaust smoke extraction device on the top. It is opened after the test to discharge exhaust outside and remains closed during testing.
- Sealed tempered-glass observation window on the front of the chamber for monitoring the test.
- Sealed glove operation port below the observation window for manipulating the burner inside the chamber.
- Test chamber dimensions: 2.1 m (L) x 1.2 m (W) x 1.8 m (H); control cabinet dimensions: 0.4 m (L) x 0.3 m (W) x 1.2 m (H); available internal volume 4.4 m3.
Temperature Measurement System
- Thermal sensor consisting of copper tubing and thermocouples. The copper tube is made of very high conductivity electrolytic copper with length 19.14 +/- 0.02 mm.
- K-type thermocouple with 0.5 mm diameter stainless steel sleeve.
- Digital temperature meter matched with imported K-type thermocouple, with reading greater than 1000 C.
- The complete temperature measurement system is movable and placed in the chamber for flame calibration.
- Equipped with electronic stopwatch accurate to 0.1 s for backup use during temperature calibration.
Apparatus and Fixtures
- Main fixtures include test stand and burner fixture.
- Burner diameter 9.5 +/- 0.5 mm; fire mouth diameter 0.90 +/- 0.03 mm; fire mouth length 1.60 +/- 0.05 mm; burner pipe length about 102 mm; adjustable air supply.
- Flame height is adjustable. Standard flame: total gas flame height 125 +/- 10 mm, blue inner flame height 40 +/- 2 mm; flame test angle adjustable from 0 to 45 degrees.
- Imported special gas needle valve for precise gas flow control.
- Imported pressure gauge and pressure regulating valve; working gas pressure 69 to 138 kPa.
- Imported burner from the United States specified for UL 1581 and meeting ASTM D 5025-99. Standard power: 500 W for vertical burner and 225 W for horizontal burner. The horizontal burner angle is 90 degrees, and the vertical burner angle is 20 degrees.
- High-voltage electronic automatic ignition system and automatic gas cut-off safety protection system.
- Wedge-shaped frame allows the burner to be motor-driven into the test position and accurately returned to the defined position.
- Test stand is made of stainless steel and includes independent vertical and horizontal brackets for FT1, FT2, and VW-1 tests.

- PLC with touch-screen intelligent control system for automatic test operation.
- Test time can be freely set by the customer.
- Both vertical and horizontal combustion test modes are available.
- Experimental data are automatically calculated and stored.
- Burning setting range: 0 to 999.99 seconds.
