Product Introduction

 

The basic principle of plastic smoke density measurement is that, within a defined enclosed space, cables or materials generate smoke under specified burning or radiation conditions. Light passing through the smoke is attenuated, and the transmittance is measured to calculate specific optical density and smoke density.

 

The TESTech smoke density chamber is designed according to ISO 5659 related standards. When used with a conical radiant furnace, the chamber can provide heat flux up to 50 kW/m2 and allows lateral sample positioning to test mass loss rate. This also complies with the latest IMO test clauses.

 

The equipment measures the smoke density produced by a specimen in a sealed chamber when vertically exposed to a radiant heat source of 25 kW/m2, with or without pilot flame. By using the ISO 5659 conical radiant furnace, the heating condition can be adjusted freely from 10 kW/m2 to 50 kW/m2 or 70 kW/m2.

Chamber Structure

 

  • The system consists of chamber, specimen holder, radiant cone, igniter, light transmission and measurement device, and other related controls.
  • Ergonomic structural and control design with fully open door configuration.
  • Door lock design allows one-time complete closing of the chamber door.
  • Chamber door can be fully opened for sample loading and cleaning; internal chamber dimensions are 914 +/-3 mm x 914 +/-3 mm x 610 +/-3 mm.
  • Front door hinge-mounted with viewing window and movable opaque shutter to block external light.
  • Upper and lower optical windows diameter 75 mm.
  • Controller positioned at the side of the chamber for easy operation and visibility when door is closed.
  • Auxiliary heating device inside the chamber, 500 W, stabilizing chamber temperature at 40 +/-5 C or 55 +/-5 C.
  • Safety extinguishing plate for easier replacement and safer operation.
  • Gas measurement port available for toxicity testing.
  • Chamber coating is easy to clean and resistant to chemical corrosion.
  • Smoke chamber equipped with exhaust valve and connected fan.

Combustion Device

 

  • Heating cone power 2600 W, input temperature range 0-1000 C, stable within +/-2 C in 50 minutes, and capable of providing 10-50 kW/m2 radiant intensity.
  • ISO 5659-2 / GB/T 8323 radiant cone device provides 50 kW/m2 heat radiation output.
  • Mass flow controller and differential pressure sensor improve manometer accuracy and allow automatic leakage test.
  • Igniter with automatic ignition, flame length 30 +/-5 mm, blue flame with yellow tip as required by the standard.

 

Smoke Density Measurement System

 

  • Smoke density and temperature are digitally displayed for convenient reading and improved accuracy.
  • Photoelectric detector assembly includes photomultiplier tube, amplifier filter, optical shutter, filter, neutral density filter, lens, and optical window.
  • Light source is 6.5 V incandescent lamp.
  • Amplifier filter ND-2.0 transmittance 0.95 percent; neutral density filter ND-0.5 transmittance 31.7 percent.
  • Imported MEDTHERM water-cooled heat flux meter.
  • Lower chamber incandescent light source provides uniform light spot output; source voltage 4 V +/-0.2 V; color temperature 2200 K +/-100 K; light spot diameter 51 mm; computer automatically records specific optical density according to light changes.
  • Optical dark box installed at the chamber top with side-window photomultiplier receiver; transmittance precision can reach 0.001 percent.
  • Lower aperture with annular heater keeps optical window temperature between 50 C and 55 C.
